TaxDome and Jetpack Workflow solve different problems.
- TaxDome is an all-in-one platform built around the client: portal, documents, client reminders and workflow. You pay per seat, per year, upfront.
- Jetpack Workflow focuses on recurring workflow and deadlines. It's priced per seat, per month. Its own site says it suits firms that already have portal, invoicing and document tools they like.
If you want workflow, time, WIP and billing in one system, without paying a year upfront, there's a third option: Axis by TPS Software. It has been built only for accounting firms since 1999, and it starts at $18 USD per user per month, billed monthly.

Where TaxDome is the stronger fit
TaxDome suits tax-first firms that want the whole client experience in one place: a branded portal, a mobile app, documents and automated client reminders. If client-facing chaos is your biggest problem and you're comfortable committing for one to three years upfront, it's a reasonable choice.
What to weigh: every plan is billed upfront, and the Essentials plan can't add a second user. Firms that used CPACharge also had to move to a different payment provider in May 2026.
Where Jetpack Workflow is the stronger fit
Jetpack suits firms that only need recurring workflow and already run portal, billing and documents in other tools. It handles templates, deadlines and team workload. Premium adds time tracking, budget-and-actuals reporting and capacity management.
What to weigh: billing, WIP and client payments stay in another system. Jetpack itself says it isn't the tool for firms that want one platform for portal, billing, documents and workflow.
Where Axis fits: you'd outgrow Jetpack but don't want TaxDome's upfront contract
Axis by TPS Software is built for the firm in between: one that needs real workflow and needs that work to end in an accurate invoice.
- Workflow that matches how your firm reviews work. Templates assign tasks by role, such as the client's assigned manager or partner, so one template works across every client. Tasks can wait until the client's documents arrive, and when someone marks a task complete, the next person is notified. (Pro and Ultimate)
- Time, WIP and billing in the same system. Time is logged against the job, and WIP nets out progress bills automatically. Partners review draft invoices before anything goes out, and Bill All Outstanding WIP in Batch clears a whole group of clients in one step.
- Get paid the way your clients already pay. On Ultimate, clients pay from the portal or an invoice link through CPACharge, Stripe, PayPal, Clover or PayClix, and payments are applied to AR.
- Pay monthly. $18, $25 or $34 USD per user per month, with no annual commitment and no onboarding fee.
"Everyone was able to accurately enter their time, and that's never happened." — Etrends Group
Three common switching stories
- "We use Jetpack, but billing lives in a spreadsheet." Axis keeps workflow templates and automatic hand-offs, and adds time, WIP and invoicing so nothing gets retyped.
- "We're on TaxDome and lost CPACharge." Axis Ultimate supports CPACharge, and you pay month to month.
- "We're growing and don't want to prepay seats for three years." Axis is priced per user, per month.
What a 5-person firm pays in year one
| Option | Billing | Year one (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| TaxDome Pro, 1-year term | Upfront | $5,000 USD |
| TaxDome Pro, 3-year term | Upfront each year, 3-year commitment | $4,500 USD per year |
| Jetpack Workflow Premium + optional onboarding package | Monthly | $3,540 + $1,500 = $5,040 USD |
| Axis Pro (workflow, time, billing) | Monthly | $1,500 USD |
| Axis Ultimate (adds portal, e-sign, online payments, QuickBooks Online sync, Power BI) | Monthly | $2,040 USD |
Jetpack figures use its monthly price; Jetpack also offers annual billing. Axis figures exclude optional data conversion ($350–750 USD). Plans include different features, so compare the plan that covers what your firm needs.
FAQ
Is TaxDome or Jetpack Workflow cheaper? For a team, Jetpack's monthly per-seat price is lower than TaxDome Pro's annual price paid upfront. But they include different things: Jetpack doesn't offer a portal or billing. For a 5-person firm, Axis Pro ($25 USD/user/month) and Ultimate ($34 USD/user/month) both cost less than either, and both include time and billing.
Does Jetpack Workflow have a client portal? No. Jetpack is designed to work alongside the portal and billing tools a firm already uses.
Can I pay TaxDome monthly? Not for the main plans, which are all billed upfront. Pro offers temporary seats at $100 USD per seat per month.
What should a firm use if it wants workflow and billing together? A practice management system that includes both. Axis by TPS Software combines workflow, time, WIP and billing, billed monthly per user.
Does Axis work with CPACharge? Yes, on the Ultimate plan, alongside Stripe, PayPal, Clover and PayClix.
